A recovery agent was reportedly assaulted by multiple suspects during a vehicle repossession attempt in Stockton, California, on the evening of July 29, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The incident occurred in the city's Lakeview District. Police said the 44-year-old recovery agent was attempting to repossess a vehicle when several individuals confronted him, pulled him from the recovery vehicle, and assaulted him before fleeing.

According to investigators, two suspects drove away in the vehicle that was the subject of the repossession, while several others fled on foot. The recovery agent declined medical treatment at the scene.

Police described the suspects as one adult Black female and four adult Black males. No arrests had been announced as of Thursday afternoon, and investigators have not released additional information about the suspects' relationship to the vehicle or whether any weapons were involved.

The Stockton Police Department continues to investigate the incident.

According to inquiries made with several repossession companies, none reported having employees involved in the incident. The recovery agent may have worked for an unlicensed repossession company, or the repossession may have been conducted by a used car dealership.
