Towman Sought After Fatal Kentucky Collision
Kentucky State Police are searching for a tow truck driver who left the scene of a fatal collision late Friday night in Bullitt County, Kentucky.
Luis Gonzalez Perez, 34, of Louisville, was operating a wrecker that was towing a bobtail tractor when the crash occurred on Interstate 65 near mile marker 112. Police said the wrecker was positioned across all three northbound lanes as Perez attempted to make a U-turn to head north.
A 2007 Ford Focus struck the wrecker during the maneuver. The car’s driver, Shawn Franklin, 43, of North Carolina, suffered severe injuries and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he later died.
According to the preliminary investigation, the bobtail tractor had been parked on the shoulder facing north, while the tow truck was facing south to prepare for the recovery.
KSP said Perez was not injured and left the scene after the crash. Troopers and other law enforcement agencies are searching for him. Charges are pending.
