Towman Jailed after Child Falls from Vehicle

A tow truck driver was jailed Sunday on a felony charge after police said he towed a car from outside a restaurant in Sunrise, Florida, while a 4-year-old girl was still inside, leading to the child falling from the moving vehicle.

According to police, the girl’s father had parked outside a restaurant and went inside briefly. When he returned, he saw the driver hitching his sedan, which was parked in a fire lane. Video shows the father running toward the vehicle and yelling that his daughter was inside, but the driver continued to drive away.

Police said that as the father chased the car, the child opened a rear door and fell onto the roadway, suffering superficial injuries. A witness told investigators the father pulled the girl out of traffic.

Officers later identified the driver as Sergio Jesus Suarez, who worked for All-Ways Towing. Police said Suarez initially attempted to leave again after returning to the plaza, prompting a traffic stop and arrest.
