Towman Downed: Driver Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter
A tow truck driver was killed Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 20 near Spur 408 and Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas after being struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver, according to authorities.
Guillermo Garcia, 66, had stopped on the shoulder to assist a 59-year-old motorist with a flat tire when a silver SUV veered off the roadway and hit him. Witness Jose Moreno-Mercado said Garcia was standing beside his tow truck when the vehicle suddenly swerved onto the shoulder.
Deputies responded around 3:43 p.m., finding Garcia unconscious with severe head injuries. He was transported to Methodist Central Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators identified the driver as 41-year-old Selvin Omar Amador Morazan, who told deputies he looked down after receiving a call and realized he had struck something when he looked up. Authorities reported signs of intoxication, and he admitted to drinking earlier in the day.
Morazan was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Moreno-Mercado remembered Garcia as “a very good, humble person,” adding that he stayed with him in his final moments, trying to comfort his injured friend. Source: https://www.cbsnews.com and https://www.fox4news.com
