Towman Carlos Trejo Jr. Killed in Hit-and-Run in L.A.

A tow truck driver identified as Carlos Trejo Jr., 57, was struck and killed early Tuesday while assisting a disabled vehicle on the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on the southbound side near the Florence Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol. Trejo was working on the right shoulder when a southbound driver hit him and fled the scene, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced Trejo dead at the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle was later found abandoned nearby, but the driver had fled on foot and remains at large, CHP officials said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or video of the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol.
