More than 100 tow truck operators gathered in East Hartford, Connecticut, to honor Alexander Ramos, a 26-year-old tow truck driver killed while working Tuesday evening on Tunxis Avenue in Bloomfield.

Ramos, a husband, father, son and friend, was struck while working near his tow truck. He suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other vehicle was later found overturned on its roof, and its driver remained at the scene before being taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Wednesday night, dozens of tow operators drove their wreckers past Ramos’ East Hartford home, where family, friends and neighbors gathered for a vigil.

The show of support also renewed calls for motorists to slow down and move over. Connecticut’s move-over law requires drivers to slow down and, when possible, change lanes around stopped emergency vehicles, highway crews and tow trucks displaying flashing lights.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, and the investigation continues.
