Tow Operators Brace for Hazardous Winter Conditions

Tow truck operators across the country are preparing for hazardous road conditions and increased call volume as extreme cold and an approaching winter storm impact large portions of the United States. The National Weather Service has warned that nearly everyone east of the Rockies could see effects from snow, ice, or extreme cold from Friday through early next week.

In North Dakota, record-setting temperatures have already driven a surge in battery-related breakdowns. Fargo-Moorhead Towing said the past weekend stretched crews thin as frigid conditions caused widespread vehicle failures. Operators prioritize stranded motorists along roadways over less urgent calls.

“If you don’t really know what you’re doing, I wouldn’t do it,” said Corey Doll, operations manager at Fargo-Moorhead Towing. “With today’s cars and all the electronics, you can mess it up pretty quick.”

Farther south, tow operators in North Carolina are preparing for dangerous ice. Adams Towing and Recovery has inspected trucks, checked recovery equipment, and adjusted staffing plans ahead of an expected ice storm.

“Ice is very dangerous,” said Justin Murray, manager at Adams Towing and Recovery. He said winter storms can double or triple call volume while significantly increasing response times.

Both operators urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, expect delays, and move over for roadside responders as conditions worsen this weekend. Source: https://www.wfmynews2.com
