Tow Operator Killed During Rollback Loading Incident
A Maryland tow truck operator was killed Friday after the SUV he was loading onto a rollback tow truck rolled forward and struck him, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Louis Skinner, 67, of La Plata, was working shortly after 4:19 p.m. in the 9300 block of WW Industrial Drive when the incident occurred. Investigators said Skinner was securing an SUV on the rollback when the truck unexpectedly moved forward. As the bed shifted, the SUV rolled and struck Skinner, causing fatal injuries. Bystanders attempted to help before emergency crews arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
PFC D. Walker of the Charles County Sheriff's Office Traffic Operations Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities have not determined why the rollback moved on its own, and the case remains under investigation.
