A Memphis tow truck driver is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge after authorities say a vehicle repossession dispute turned violent in the city's Whitehaven neighborhood.

According to police, 29-year-old Taylor Douget was operating a tow truck for Memphis Towing and Recovery when he was confronted by the owner of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that was being repossessed. The encounter occurred at an intersection last Friday and quickly escalated into a heated argument.

Investigators allege Douget exited his truck carrying a heavy metal pipe later identified as the handle from a 2-ton jack. Court documents state that Douget knocked a phone from the vehicle owner's hand and struck him during the confrontation. When the victim's girlfriend began recording the incident, Douget allegedly hit the man in the head with the metal bar.

The victim was knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries, including two fractured vertebrae and a deep laceration above his ear that required stitches.

During questioning, Douget admitted arming himself with the metal pipe but denied striking the victim. He was arrested and booked on the felony charge pending court proceedings.
