Toddler Found Alive at Impound Lot
A 13-month-old child was found alive Saturday inside a vehicle that had been towed to an Eastpointe impound lot after being left unattended for several days on a Detroit-area street. Harper Woods police said the toddler was discovered crying in the rear of the locked vehicle at Woods Towing and Services but is in stable condition and expected to recover. Child Protective Services is now involved.
The car had been parked on Damman Street near I-94, where neighbors reported it to police because it was improperly parked. Officers had the vehicle impounded Friday afternoon.
Earlier that day, the child’s mother reported the baby missing to Detroit police. Detectives later learned the vehicle, registered to the child’s father, had been towed and suspected the toddler might still be inside.
Detroit and Harper Woods officers went to the impound lot Saturday and found the child in the locked vehicle, which police said could not be thoroughly inventoried at the time of the tow.
The father is in custody, and prosecutors are reviewing the case. Source: https://www.wxyz.com/
