This is a company profile of sorts - a helluva story about a company in Canada that handles some amazing recoveries in a hair-raising environment.Jamie Davis Motor Truck is an industry leader in heavy recovery and rescue. Based out of Hope, British Columbia, with supporting operations in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the team conquers varying terrain in difficult circumstances everyday.Jamie Davis is the owner and boss of the company that he started six years ago after running a heavy-rescue business with his brother. He deals with everything from working some awesome recoveries to paying the bills, managing employees, haggling with creditors, keeping the clients happy and driving the biggest and baddest truck in his fleet, his rotator. His wife, Sherry, and their four kids live in a home next to the shop.Jamie and his team provide a variety of services, including towing, transport, emergency recovery, mobile repairs, traffic control, and truck repair services. They have earned a reputation by having the largest fleet of modern equipment in the area, quick response times, professional and courteous staff and reasonable pricing.“We provide an important service for the motoring public and the economy at large by maintaining proper traffic flow on highways,” Jamie said. “Our team is dedicated to providing these services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and it is a responsibility that we take very seriously.“We strive in difficult terrain and harsh climates. We base our operations out of our dispatch in Hope, British Columbia. … We primarily service Highways 1, 3, and 5. We also operate in Alberta out of our Fort McMurray office, supplying services to the areas surrounding Fort McMurray & Lac la Biche, covering Highway 63 and Highway 881. Our trucks are licensed to travel all Canadian and American jurisdictions. We routinely travel to the interior parts of B.C. and Alberta to provide recovery services involving high-value, high-risk operations that require specialized equipment.“Our people make us different,” Jamie said. “Most professions do not require the level of precision, skill and ingenuity that our daily tasks demand. Our people handle emergency situations with wisdom and solve complicated problems with ease.”Having gained notoriety for his recovery skills, the Discovery Channel has created a reality show called “Highway Thru Hell” following the exploits of Jamie and his crew. The Coquihalla (Highway 5) is one of the most treacherous major highways in the world. Rising through the steep mountains passes in British Columbia, it is a gauntlet of brutal weather and white-knuckle driving. The “Coq” is also the main artery between east and west, with thousands of semis crossing every day. Many don’t make it. Jamie and his team have the daunting job of clearing these wrecks to keep the highway open. Closure is not an option. If you are in the business of heavy recovery or just interested in dangerous work done with precision, this is as real as it gets and well worth watching.
