Texas Tow Operators Feel Pinch of Rising Fuel, Insurance Costs
Rising fuel prices and inflation are putting added pressure on towing companies across Central Texas as operators face mounting expenses tied to fuel, insurance, maintenance and equipment.
Bruce Winkler, owner of Temple Towing, said nearly every aspect of the towing business has become more expensive in recent years, making it increasingly difficult to balance operating costs while keeping rates affordable for customers.
“Gas prices are just killing us,” Winkler said, noting that rising fuel costs are only part of the challenge. Insurance premiums, employee expenses, truck maintenance and replacement parts have all climbed sharply. He said insurance for his fleet alone costs about $17,000 per month, while replacing tires on a flatbed tow truck can cost nearly $3,000.
Despite the increases, Winkler said the company has worked to limit price hikes, raising rates by only $10 this year after holding prices steady for four years. He also delayed purchasing new tow trucks for more than two years to help control expenses.
With demand for towing services expected to remain strong, companies continue searching for ways to absorb rising costs without passing the burden on to customers. Source: https://www.kcentv.com
