Stewart's Services Are in Demand
The Stewart family of Stewart’s Towing and Recovery in Portland, Maine, was happy with their 60-ton rotator until they discovered Miller’s 75-ton twin-steer rotator with a 2011 Cummins engine. Founder Dickie Stewart said they saw the truck at a show and thought it would “make a great addition to our fleet.”The price tag was $700,000 though.“‘That’s a lot of money,’ I said to my kids Bubba, Dickie and Scottie, who now run the business. ‘If you want this—as long as you get out and work it and hustle, I’ll go along with it,’ ” Stewart said.“Well they’ve done wonders with it. With two front-wheel axles, five winches and a low-rider extra-long wheel lift, that truck has so much muscle, us opportunities to do jobs nobody else can do.”Like when they recovered a truck carrying a load of beer.“Instead of tipping it over, we lifted it straight up and out of a ditch without spilling an ounce. We would have had to tip it over using any other truck,” Stewart said. From rescuing fire trucks to 40’ campers, Stewart’s new 75-ton rotator is keeping itself busy justifying its hefty price tag with their specialized services in demand. The Stewart name is clearly visible on the truck, written in purple and gold lettering. Around the lettering are purple and gold splashes, in different shapes and dimensions, that give it a unique expression while accentuating the company’s longstanding identity in the community. The truck is driven by Bubba, whose cartoon image is found on the passenger and driver sides, along with his nickname, “Bubby,” and a picture of Bubba’s son.“Everyone loves Bubba,” Stewart said. “One customer liked him so much they asked if they could steal him. I said, ‘You can’t steal him ma’am. We need Bubba.’ ”Stewart’s is a company with a friendly and warm personality, a prompt and exceptional history of service, and trucks for all situations. It’s no wonder their services are in demand.
