As American Towman's operations editor, Randy Resch has often tackled "Situational Awareness" as a key topic all towers must keep top of mind.

This week in the News section are two stories that highlight the need for vigilance, from very different angles. One of the stories is about a tower being rescued from a sink hole that opened up beneath the car he was hooking up. The vehicle had broken a water main tat caused the hole to open up underneath. Firefighters got him to safety.The other story is about an operator who was fired when a confrontation he had with a business owner was caught by a witness with a smartphone. You guessed it: The video went viral online and the tow company did what it had to to save face. The second story underscores a need to be professional at all times in the modern world where anyone with a phone can put your actions online for all to see.
