By JIM "BUCK" SORRENTI - AT Field Editor Miller Industries' Ring Leaders Rotator School in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Oct. 22-24 was a three days of classroom sessions and demos held at the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame & Museum. The class included construction and maintenance information along with rigging and recoveries. Many different scenarios were demonstrated during the Rotator Seminar. Casualties for the demonstrations included an overturned dump truck, loaded tanker, container trailer, loaded mixer drum and a 47,000-lbs. steel coil. Close to 100 owners and operators participated from nearly 60 companies in 22 different states and three Canadian provinces. Instructors were Tom Luciano and John Hawkins from Miller, along with representatives from DP Winch, Ashley Sling and Crosby Group. Luciano is director of training for Miller, and Hawkins is VP of heavy-duty sales. Luciano conducts numerous training seminars in light- to heavy-duty towing and recovery across the country. Hawkins has assisted in the design and development of towing equipment of all kinds since the mid 1980s and shares several patents. "They hold two seminars a year, one in Chattanooga and one on the road. Miller Industries is a staunch supporter of training and education," said Randy Olson, Miller VP of marketing. "We offer seminars and demonstrations to help operators maximize the potential of their equipment in a safe, productive manner." This was the 18th Rotator Seminar at the museum by Luciano and Hawkins. Both men bring a wealth of knowledge, years of experience and a sense of humor to every class they present. United Towing from Alpharetta, Ga., Southside Wrecker Service from Union City, Ga., Parker's Wrecker Service from Newnan, Ga., and Joey's Towing from Warren, Mich., all attended and supplied their Century rotators for the demos. Distributors Crouch's Wrecker & Equipment Sales in Kingston Springs, Tenn., and Austin Hinds Motors in Arab, Ala., also had wreckers on-hand for the demos.
