Rideout’s Tri-State Towing & Recovery is celebrating a remarkable milestone as owner Gary Crawford marks 50 years in the towing and recovery industry. Since purchasing the Henderson, Kentucky-based company in 1976 with his wife, Brenda, Crawford has transformed a small operation with five aging tow trucks into one of the Midwest's premier heavy-duty recovery companies.

Today, the company operates a fleet of approximately 50 specialized trucks serving Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Rideout’s has earned national recognition for its expertise in complex recoveries, including multiple cover stories in American Towman and Tow Times magazines. Among its most notable accomplishments are the award-winning recovery of a 163,000-pound mining truck, the successful extraction of a partially submerged 70,000-pound cement truck, and the recovery of an overturned 78,000-pound semi-trailer using advanced air cushion technology.

Crawford credits the company's success to investing in quality equipment, continuous driver training, and a commitment to professionalism. Many of Rideout’s operators hold advanced certifications, with several also serving as firefighters and EMTs, bringing valuable emergency response experience to difficult recovery scenes.

Now responding to more than 1,500 service calls each month—including approximately 700 through AAA—Rideout’s Tri-State Towing & Recovery has become a trusted regional leader. After five decades, Crawford remains passionate about the industry, saying the variety of challenges and opportunity to help people have made towing "a great business."
