Queens Body Shop Owner Investigated in Towing Scheme
A Queens body shop owner known for flaunting a lavish lifestyle on social media is under investigation for allegedly operating illegal tow trucks throughout New York City.
According to a report by Gothamist writer David Borukhov, owner of Nizo Motors, posted videos promoting the towing industry while driving unlicensed tow trucks and performing burnouts in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park. City officials say neither Borukhov nor his company currently hold valid towing licenses.
The investigation follows growing concerns over illegal “chaser” tow trucks that race to crash scenes seeking lucrative repair and storage jobs. Officials estimate hundreds of unlicensed tow trucks are operating across the city.
Borukhov, who frequently showcases luxury cars, helicopters and private jets online, has openly discussed aggressive tactics within the towing industry on podcasts and social media. The report also references past federal prosecutions involving NYPD officers accused of providing crash information to tow operators.
New York City officials say enforcement efforts against illegal towing operations are increasing, while lawmakers push for tougher regulations to crack down on rogue operators. Source: https://gothamist.com
