In Kansas City, Mo, towers came out  to honor the life of fallen tower Blake Gresham while spreading awareness of the Move Over Law.

Gresham, who was hit and killed 10 years ago while helping a stranded driver on a bridge, worked as a tow truck driver for his family company.

Move Over for Blake, a nonprofit committed to raising public safety awareness for towers and other emergency personnel on the roadways, hosted the tenth annual Light the Sky event at Berkley Riverfront Park.

“Every year on his anniversary, a bunch of tow companies come together for this. Once it gets dark, then everybody's going to turn on their lights,” Amy Gresham said. “It's something really neat to see if you've never seen it.”

Dozens of companies came together to spread awareness for drivers to slow down and move over and to remind drivers of the high fatality rates of towers.

Mike Scott, who has worked in the towing industry for 65 years, said on average, every six days, a tow truck driver is killed.

There was also a balloon release and the sale of T-shirts, which said, “Slow down for Blake. It’s the law.” The money raised from the shirts will go towards placing billboards in the Kansas City area encouraging drivers to recognize emergency workers on the roadway and move over and slow down.
