KC Mayor Pushes Legislation to Curb Predatory Towing
Mayor Quinton Lucas is taking action against predatory towing practices with proposed legislation aimed at stricter enforcement and tougher penalties. Shared via social media, Lucas announced that the legislation will be introduced Thursday at City Council and could be enacted by early June.
“People deserve accountability,” Lucas said, emphasizing that the new rules would ensure better oversight and offer ways for victims to reclaim excessive towing fees.
Predatory towing can cost residents hundreds or even thousands. Kansas City’s Regulated Industries division, which oversees private lot tows, confirms that violations are common—about half of complaints received are legitimate.
Current rules require visible signage, property owner consent, and advance notice to police before a tow. The mayor is also pushing for license revocations for repeat offenders. Source: https://fox4kc.com
