Connecticut Man Charged in Fatal Crash That Killed Tow Operator

A Connecticut man has been arrested in connection with a Sept. 8 crash that killed tow truck operator Alexander Ramos, a 26-year-old father of two, in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
Police said Curran Melanson, 28, was arrested Monday at his Hartford home. He faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
Officers responded around 7:37 p.m. to the 300 block of Tunxis Avenue, where they found Ramos unresponsive in the roadway near a tow truck. He suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A 2009 Honda Civic involved in the crash was found overturned south of where Ramos was struck. The driver remained at the scene and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad led the investigation.
Investigators obtained search warrants to examine the Honda’s mechanical and electronic systems and review the driver’s medical records.
A judge approved Melanson’s arrest warrant Thursday. His bond was set at $425,000.
