AG Seeks $224K from Philly Towing Companies
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is seeking nearly $224,000 in penalties from a group of Philadelphia towing companies accused of continuing illegal towing practices despite a 2022 court agreement.
Angelina’s, Siani’s and Aubry’s towing companies, along with Miguel Caban Jr., are accused of violating the settlement, which resolved an earlier lawsuit filed by then-Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Angelina’s and Siani’s continued performing unauthorized tows, charging illegal fees and demanding payment methods prohibited under city regulations. Philadelphia law generally limits towing fees to $175, plus $25 per day for storage.
The companies allegedly added improper labor charges, inflated taxes and, in some cases, required customers to pay in cash or through cellphone payment apps.
Authorities say they have received at least 38 consumer complaints since the settlement. The companies also allegedly failed to provide requested towing records.
Sunday is asking a judge to hold the companies in contempt. Victims could receive restitution if the court grants the petition.
